Resetting, Even When it Seems Impossible
Hey VIP’s, returning to this newsletter feels a bit different this November. With so much happening in the world following election season, I know it can be easy for things to feel heavy. National events often impact us personally, adding weight to our everyday lives, both personally and professionally. That’s why I want to remind our riders that now, more than ever, it’s essential to lean into our communities, recognize our resources, and focus on what we can control—even when it feels impossible.
Following a hectic start to November, I recently had the opportunity to volunteer at Meade Memorial Episcopal Church in Alexandria, helping distribute bagged lunches to those in need. This church offers this service every single day—without fail. Watching the woman who runs the program with such care and dedication to her community reminded me of the importance of doing what we can locally. It’s one thing to read about underserved communities and the resource gaps affecting those who are poor, unhoused, or struggling; it’s another to experience it firsthand and see the real impact in the hands that gratefully accept a second or third meal.
Meaningful change can be made at the local level, and volunteer efforts can be deeply fulfilling, especially in times like these. I encourage you to explore opportunities in your area—through local churches, shelters, and community initiatives—where you can lend a helping hand.
As we look toward the new year, it’s also a good time to consider the resources available to help manage...life. If your employer offers an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), explore how it might support you—not only with work-related and personal stressors but also with overall well-being. Small steps like listening to a free guided meditation from Headspace on Spotify or Apple Music during your commute can make a difference. Remember who is here to stay: the small businesses in our community! Supporting local is the name of the game. Take some time and find little ways to clear your mind, your physical space, and your queue of tasks. It’s time to settle in and recenter before the holiday season and new years come sweeping in.
