Downtown Holiday Market Illuminated DC with Festive Cheer!
The enchanting Downtown Holiday Market has made its return for this Christmas season, ushering in the spirit of the holidays for its 19th joyful season! Boasting its delightful outdoor shopping village that hosts more than 70 vendors, with a significant number being black-owned & minority-owned businesses, this market is a celebration of diversity and holiday magic. From luxurious body butters & oils, jewelry, and niche Christmas ornaments to the comforting aromas of hot cocoa, fresh donuts, and German eats, the Holiday Market transforms the city into a winter wonderland.
I had the pleasure of immersing myself in the festivities for the first time this season not once but twice - and yes, it was that good! I had the opportunity to visit opening day Friday, November 17th when the excitement of the market's return was evident in both the vendors and performers who were in attendance. As I perused through the vibrant booths set against the backdrop of live Christmas tunes played by a talented band, I got to pick up a medley of heartfelt Christmas gifts. Among them a meticulously hand-painted wooden jewelry box for a friend (Booth 54, Alyssa Bazaar), an adorable sleeping Mario button (booth 23, Treksalot), and a dreamy robe adorned with the initial "A" for my sister (booth 18, Olive & Loom).
Shopping small during the holiday season holds so much importance to me (as an avid Etsy user), even though I must admit, the prices were a bit heavy - averaging around $40.00 per gift. Window shoppers rejoice! I got to enjoy a steamy cup of coffee accompanied with a handful of delectable mini-donuts that had an aroma enticing me from blocks away. The strategically placed seating area in the heart of the market provided the perfect spot to indulge in people-watching, surrounded by the enchanting performances on the stage and an abundance of holiday-themed photo opportunities, culminating in a cozy end to the opening day.
If you've only had a chance to visit the market during the midday bustle, I urge you to return for the mesmerizing night time vibes. While there was a significant increase in foot traffic the night of Sunday the 6th, the stalls and rosy-nosed visitors appeared even more magical beneath the twinkling Christmas lights. There's something inherently cozy about the cold nighttime air, accentuated by bursts of warmth within the booths, making the exploration of trinkets and treasures all the more delightful.
Whether you're planning a romantic date night or a family outing the Downtown Holiday Market has something for everyone. Don't miss out on this enchanting experience- make sure to catch it before it bids farewell on Saturday, December 23rd!
